Position Summary

We’re looking for a friendly, sales-driven person with a background or interest in ceramics, design, and home furnishings to work at our Ferry Building showroom. You’ll help create a welcoming and informative experience for every customer by sharing Heath’s story, helping customers find the right products, processing sales, restocking and organizing merchandise, and keeping the showroom looking its best.

Located in one of San Francisco’s busiest public marketplaces, the Ferry Building showroom serves a wide mix of local customers and visitors, including design-savvy shoppers, architects and designers, chefs, gift shoppers, and people discovering Heath for the first time. You’ll bring an open, friendly demeanor, strong communication skills, an appreciation for our iconic ceramics, and an eagerness to learn about our products and history. Because this is a small-format showroom, you’ll also need to be comfortable staying organized, working independently, and providing attentive customer service in a compact, high-traffic environment.

Position Responsibilities

  • Deliver an engaging customer experience by welcoming customers, asking thoughtful questions, sharing product knowledge, and making recommendations that help customers find the right products for their needs.
  • Support showroom sales and transactions by providing attentive service, working toward sales goals, and accurately processing purchases, returns, and other customer transactions.
  • Maintain an organized, presentation-ready showroom by restocking merchandise, monitoring displays, receiving and replenishing product, and keeping the space clean and visually appealing throughout the day.
  • Support day-to-day showroom operations and communication by managing priorities in a high-traffic environment, completing opening and closing tasks, using POS and other technology, and sharing customer feedback, inventory needs, and other key information with the Showroom Manager and retail team.

Who You Are

  • 1–3 years of previous sales experience, preferably for a design-led brand
  • Ability to meet and exceed team sales goals
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a small, high-traffic retail environmen
  • Interest in ceramics, design, home furnishings, and other creative pursuits
  • Strong and engaging verbal and written communication style
  • Ability to identify customer needs, problem solve, and clearly explain product features and benefits 
  • Knowledge of mobile POS systems (Shopify is a strong plus)
  • High comfort level with technology (Mac OS, iPad/laptop, Google Workspace, and ecommerce searches) 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods 
  • Ability to lift, reach, and grasp 30 lbs of ceramic dinnerware and to load/unload bins of merchandise
  • Frequent reaching, bending, and repetitive hand and arm movements associated with stocking, wrapping products, and processing transactions

Work Environment/Hours/ Compensation

This role is based in our Ferry Building showroom. It is a part-time position offering 12–24 hours per week with possible additional hours during peak and holiday periods. Candidates must be available to work on Sunday each week, along with additional weekday/s availability. The pay rate for this position is $25 per hour.

This role is based in a small-format retail space within the Ferry Building. Employees should be comfortable working in a compact, highly visible, customer-facing environment with frequent foot traffic and activity throughout the day.
